Firefighter/drug dealer mayhem, Father John Misty backs the 'Hack and the Knicks are f*cked

- And that’s why the New York Knicks will continue to suck for a long, long time. They have a terrible, clueless owner and that terrible clueless owner is fully committed to the inept, egomaniacal team president he’s entrusted to run his franchise. In other words, Knicks owner James Dolan plans to honor the deal he inked with Big Chief Triangle, a.k.a. Knicks president Phil Jackson, by allowing Jackson to finish his five-year contract if he chooses and not meddle in any player personnel affairs. "Three years ago, I signed a contract with Phil Jackson," Dolan said. "The man who has more championship rings as far as I know than anybody else. He was the best guy we thought we could find to run the New York Knicks. And I made an agreement with him. Dolan could in some situations be construed as a smart owner doing the right thing by not meddling with his team, but has he looked at the Knicks lately? They’ve lost 20 of 26 games to fall out of the playoffs race in the weak Eastern Conference, their roster is a dumpster fire and Jackson has made one good move - drafting Kristaps Porzingis - since arriving in Manhattan. Yet Dolan wants to sit back and allow Jackson and general manager Steve Mills to keep doing what they’re doing without any input? Dolan has no clue how to run his franchise or how to construct an NBA team, but that simply means he’s on an even level with Jackson in terms of getting the Knicks to championship status. The only hope here is that Jackson exercises the opt-out clause in his contract and allows Dolan to hire someone competent to run his team, but given that he’s banking $12 million a year to run the Knicks terribly, don’t look for that to happen……….

- Organized crime in Italy ain’t what it used to be. Images of mobsters carrying guns and enforcing their will on anyone who stands in their way aren’t the whole picture these days and that’s why police in Sicily have confiscated four olive companies, farmland, villas and other property that anti-Mafia prosecutors contend belong to the business empire of Italy's top Mafia boss, who has been on the run for more than 20 years. Seizing the assets of a mob boss on the run is a way to try to squeeze said mob boss by cutting off access he might need to the capital that could keep him well-supplied while on the lam. The assets were confiscated in the western part of the island considered to be Matteo Messina Denaro's power base, with an estimated worth of 13 million euros ($14 million). Denaro, a convicted Cosa Nostra mobster, is Italy's most-wanted fugitive and has been for a couple of decades now. According to prosecutors, the olive businesses and 108 other properties, plus vehicles and bank accounts, were listed in the names of accomplices to hide their actual ownership by Denaro. Maybe Denaro is a munificent mob boss who gives olive businesses and expensive vehicles to his underlings to reward them for their loyalty. It’s estimated that Italy's various mafias earn billions annually in agriculture, going to far as to use their muscle to compel grocers to sell mobster-produced mozzarella or other products. It’s quite a racket and now prosecutors will have to see if that noose is tightened up enough to snag Denaro………

- He’s the bad boy of indie rock, as much as a hipster icon can be a bad boy, but even for Father John Misty, this is several steps too far. FJM, also known as Joshua Tillman, is coming out strong in support of Nickelhack, Chad Kroeger and his band of Canadian musical manglers. Tillman was moved to speak after learning about recent events in which Chainsmokers were referred to as ‘The Nickelback of EDM,” an apt description that inspired the two bands to respond by covering each others’ terrible music. “I will ride for Nickelback, OK?” Tillman said. “Because this whole Chainsmokers thing I read about recently, when I was wasting time on the Internet, and someone wrote some article about how horrible Nickelback is or something. ‘How You Remind Me’… That’s a fucking great song. Have you heard that song? It’s great.” Oh, we’ve all heard it and we wish we could unhear that three-minute span of arena rock drivel. When asked why he likes that particular song, Tillman admitted, “I don’t know,” which isn't exactly a staunch defense of anything. In the end, Tillman is adamant about one thing and that’s his unwavering support of the ‘Hack. “But I will ride for Nickelback – I want that on the record. ‘Farmer John Misery – I ride for Nickelback.’” Oh, it’s on the record and for that comment, a lot of people may not want to buy Tillman’s next record……..

- Being a firefighter is a stressful job. It also doesn’t pay as well as it should given the amount of danger involved on a regular basis…so maybe that’s why a firefighter in Norwalk, Connecticut was arrested for peddling cocaine while on duty. Local police had the distinct experience of arresting one of their fellow first responders, Mark Monroe, after executing four arrest and three search warrants. Investigators had been looking into Malone for several months before his arrest and they were finally able to move on him after he sold three packages of cocaine to an undercover officer, one of five times he allegedly sold blow to the officer, including two that happened while he was on duty with the Norwalk Fire Department, police said. Detectives claim Monroe would direct the undercover officer to the lot of the Volk Central Fire Station on Connecticut Avenue and carry out the transactions there, while he did other deals in store parking lots on New Canaan and West avenues. When they carried out a search warrant at Monroe's home, police recovered five more bags of cocaine weighing 12.35 grams, along with illegal prescription pills and suspected steroids, with a side dish of 300 hypodermic needles. There were more pills and cocaine found in his vehicle and the piece de resistance was a gun found to be stored in a dresser within reach of a child. All in all, Monroe faces multiple drug charges and a charge of risk of injury to a minor and failing to responsibly store a firearm. Not the proudest moment for all of the brave men and women out there who spends their days and nights saving lives, putting out fires and rescuing those in need of assistance……..
