New York Jets pan, Richie Hawtin forgets he's Richie Hawtin and border crossers = holiday cash

- New York Jets fans are a beaten-down lot. Their collective will to soldier on is impressive given the fact that they can be sure their team will find the most embarrassing/gut-wrenching way possible to lose even in games they should win. Therefore, it’s reasonable to expect that in the midst of one of their worst seasons in recent memory, the fan base would not be eager to show up on a chilly Monday night to see their beloved J-E-T-S get their A-S-S K-I-C-K-E-D. If the ticket prices for Monday night’s primetime game against the Miami Dolphins are any indication, no one else really wants to see the Jets play either. Throughout the day Monday, ticket prices for the game were at their lowest since the Jets moved to MetLife Stadium in 2010. As of 1 p.m. ET, the cheapest list price on the resale market for the game was $15, 70 percent below face value, while the average price was $73.21, according to online ticket pricing sources. A 70-percent reduction probably isn't enough to convince anyone to get up off their couch and go see a 2-9 team lose on national television and as of 3 p.m., some 4,000 tickets were still available, double the number typically available that close to a game. NFL teams are already struggling to sell tickets when the option of watching at home in high definition on a massive LED flat-screen TV is readily available for most fans, so selling the idea of going all in with the Jets is a non-starter for most. Oh, and we’re just past Thanksgiving, so fans have the option of buying Christmas gifts for those they love or splurging on a meaningless game for one of the worst teams in the NFL, so that $272 ticket the Coaches Club, which gives the ticket holder an on-field view, isn’t so appealing either………

- No more shopping while strolling on Sunday, Hungarians. The country’s governing party says it supports a plan to make nearly all shops stay closed on Sundays and that has many in the business community extremely angry. Antal Rogan, a leader of the Fidesz party, said Monday Fidesz backed a bill presented by the Christian Democrats, a small ally, with the central idea being to give all employees a day off on Sunday. Stores owned and operated by families would be allowed to stay open and there would be exceptions at times when it would be most advantageous economically for stores to stay open, so clearly there isn't a hard line on this issue. The biggest critics of the bill are large, mostly-foreign owned supermarket chains and they’re pissed because the law would allow smaller food stores to ignore the ban. In other words, there may finally be a law that provides some sort of small benefit to smaller stores and the big businesses that may suffer a minor setback want none of it. Economy Minister Mihaly Varga said earlier he opposed the plan, as one of every five Hungarians does their shopping on Sundays, and he seems to have some support from the larger supermarkets, who clam that 15,000-20,000 jobs could be lost if the measure is approved. They could also simply slice a few million dollars off the annual eight-figure bonuses being paid to their executives, but of course, ain’t none of them got time for that. There’s also the question of what Hungarians are going to do on frigid winter days when they can’t leave home and escape their families to go to the store, but that doesn’t seem to be a priority here……….

- Does techno “musician” Richie Hawtin know that he’s techno “musician” Richie Hawtin? Clearly not, otherwise there would not be video of him pushing one of his sound monitors into a female fan who was recording his set at a show in New York. The incident - and the crappy show at which it took place - were at Time Warp in Brooklyn and in the video, Hawtin can be seen pushing the large monitor in the direction of the fan, out of what appears to be anger at her for filming his awful show on her smartphone. The fan reportedly suffered no injuries from the incident and her phone wasn’t destroyed, so all that was left was for some random tweaker with a mixer and no actual musical talent named Richie Hawtin to apologize for going ape-sh*t over a very minor offense. "Regarding the incident at Time Warp in New York this weekend which is being posted and talked about on the web, I would like to apologise here to the girl involved," Hawtin wrote in a statement posted to Facebook. "It was not my intention that the speaker fell. Only to nudge the monitors in her direction and for her to understand that perhaps she had filmed enough. I was as surprised as I’m sure she was when it moved the way it did and the top speaker fell off of the stack. For that, I’m extremely sorry and embarrassed about what happened. This was never my intention.” Oh, so you intended to send a subtle message by shoving a large monitor at an unsuspecting fan whose presence should have caused you to smile, not snap. Hawtin did say he had tried to contact the fan to apologize directly, but said so far he has been unsuccessful. Keep trying, Richard, because you’re not exactly a world-class musical attraction………

- While the war on immigrants continues and different parties weigh in on the benefits/evils of border crashers and their impact on the United States, there is no war on commerce and the ability of people to stream across the border and buy consumer goods. Businesses in San Ysidro, near one of the primary border crossings into the United States from Mexico, are fired up for their earnings potential thanks to the recent opening of additional lanes at the border crossing. Simply put, more lanes and more border agents staffing those lanes means more people can make their way into the U.S. in search of the products they simply must have. “We’re expecting some businesses to triple in sales compared to last year,” said Jason Wells, President of the San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce. “Business already went up on average about 22 percent just in the last month and a half that our border wait times have gone down.” Stores near the border have built advertising campaigns designed to draw Mexican shoppers across the border and Customs and Border Patrol officials and the San Diego Police Department plan to boost security to deal with the influx of people crossing the border and increased traffic in the area. Dollar, dollar signs are flying all over the place and it’s a beautiful thing, eh America………
